At last, after twelve years an updated version of Wave Corrector has been released. To get your copy, go to the Download Page and follow the instructions.

This new version has been authored by Paul Leaman, a Wave Corrector user. Paul had some ideas for various enhancements and asked me if I would permit him to modify the code. I was very happy to agree to his request and Wave Corrector v3.8 is the result. Many thanks to Paul for all his hard work.

Wave Corrector is now freeware, so eveyone, please feel free to give it a test drive. For a full list of the enhancements, see the Support Page.

Transfer your old records and tapes to digital...

Wave Corrector offers an integrated solution to record, clean-up and convert your music to digital audio formats. The program uses advanced digital processing to remove noise from old analogue recordings. Files can be transferred to CD or stored in your digital audio library. The program runs on the Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10 platforms and on LINUX under Wine.

De-Click Vinyl Records

Wave Corrector employs sophisticated noise reduction algorithms to remove many kinds of surface noise including repeating clicks, ticks and plops. The click eliminator provides accurate audio restoration by reconstructing the original audio wave from measurements of the phase and frequency content. In the Professional Edition, individual click corrections can be manually adjusted to optimise the corrected wave.

De-Hiss

A hiss removal option removes background hiss from music cassettes and reel to reel tapes.

Manual and Timed Recordings

Direct recording from within the program allows the material to be placed on the hard disc where all the other program options are available. The timer option allows you, for example, to make unattended recordings of radio broadcasts.

Track Editor

This automatically divides the recording into numbered tracks and allows editing of track boundaries.

Fade in/out

This provides for automatic or manual fades at track boundaries. The fade times can be varied to optimise the start and end of tracks.

Audition and edit individual vinyl clicks.

Audio Filters

A range of filters are available to improve sound quality. These include a rumble filter to remove very low frequencies generated by some turntables and treble lift and cut to improve the overall sound balance.

Cut and Splice

This powerful technique allows unwanted noises (eg a cough by a member of the audience) to be silently removed.

Graphic Equaliser.

Use to adjust the frequency response or to remove interfering tones, etc.

Normalise and Channel Balance

Recordings can be automatically adjusted for optimum level and balance at any point in the program.

Why Choose Wave Corrector?

Wave Corrector is designed to the meet the needs of both the home music lover as well as the professional archivist. Its overriding purpose is to maintain the maximum possible fidelity to the original recording. By means of powerful interpolation and concealment algorithms, Wave Corrector generates click corrections which blend harmoniously with the underlying waveform.. Because of its high accuracy, many thousands of large and small amplitude clicks can be concealed without processing artefacts becoming intrusive to the listener.

Unlike competitor products, Wave Corrector (Professional Edition) permits individual click corrections to be modified or removed and new corrections can be manually inserted. These features give the user much greater control over the correction process and allow for great flexibility when restoring 'difficult' material.

The animation on the right shows how Wave Corrector dynamically corrects a click to blend with the surrounding wave. Wave Corrector provides tools to both aurally and visually assess the effects of the correction process. The user is presented with a graphical display of the corrected and uncorrected waveforms overlaid on each to allow easy comparison. In the illustration, the uncorrected wave is blue, and the corrected is red. The waveform can be auditioned before and after correction, and also during user modifications. In these ways, the efficacy of each correction can be assessed and adjusted if necessary.

The User Interface (Professional Edition)

The user interface comprises the following main components:

• The main window emulates an enhanced dual trace oscilloscope display and features green and red traces representing the left and right channel corrected waves. The underlying uncorrected waves are shown in blue. Various other colour coded information is also present.
• To the left of the main window is a control bar for setting the 'oscilloscope' controls: vertical gain, horizontal gain, etc.
• Below the main Window is an Overview window which displays a histogram of either the current track or the entire wave file, Below the histogram, markers represent each of the detected clicks.
• To the right is the Correction List window which lists all the corrections performed by the program. These corrections are colour coded according to the estimated severity of the click.
• A conventional windows toolbar and status bar complete the Wave Corrector Interface.
